Our individual database has replaced client names and SSN's in various clients tax files with other clients names and SSNs. This happened to us last year and Lacerte was able to fix the database to prevent this from happening. This morning after being on the phone for an hour with tech support I was told there is nothing they can do and that they are not allowed to escalate issues anymore. We've been with Lacerte for 30+ years and this will be the last.

Sadly Lacerte has been on a slow, downward trajectory since Intuit (a company that focus on b.s. sales, versus strong technical issues) took over a few years back.  I miss the old Lacerte.

Totally agree.  If I wasn't so close to retirement, I would dump Intuit.  I let every new person entering the profession what a horrible company Intuit is.  I suggest that they use any software other than Intuit.  It is just sad.  I use EasyAcct accounting software which is an Intuit product.  They had a disastrous upgrade starting in November 2025.  It put us at least two weeks behind filing W-2s and quarterly payroll tax returns.  Which means we started tax season behind.  We normally have a couple of updates to the accounting program in January for final form issues.  We are now on update ELEVEN!!

I think this is the final straw. Unless my rep offers us a smoking deal, Ultratax here we come.

This sounds like a hardware problem making a database corrupt.  What is your hardware/network set up like?  Did they fix the database or did they walk you through the steps last year?  Clpack would be where I would start

They were able to fix it last year but had to escalate the issue. This year they tried the CLPack but it didn't work and they say they are no longer allowed to escalate issues. Our network hasn't changed so I don't think its that.

My suspicion is that it has something to do with Karbon and the syncing. The tech person I talked to had never even head of Karbon or IPM!!!

You are syncing with what?  As Lacerte and QB are not fans of syncing software in general.

Lacerte is syncing with Karbon (used to be IPM - Intuit Practice Management).

I'd go back to Karbon as that's the fly introduced into your ointment.  Drake or any other software may not be able to handle it any better.

I can't say for sure that is a Karbon issue (I'm working that angle also - disconnecting it from Lacerte - integration isn't much use anyway) My problem with Lacerte is their unwillingness to escalate the issue. They were able to fix it last year. Why not now?

Alternative is Ultratax. Been with Lacerte for 30+ years. Sad.

I would bet it's Karbon. As I'm not seeing this reported widely.  Resources? They sold the product - https://help.karbonhq.com/s/articles/8121785-what-can-my-firm-expect-when-transitioning-from-intuit-... so they no longer have the same incentive to fix when the issue wasn't caused by their code.

As a person who has migrated to and from other software - check out the state migration issues.  Most vendors do not migate ANYTHING from the state and there is a ton of migration clean up.  The issue is not Lacerte.  They are just drawing their line in the sand of support as they no longer provide the practice management component.  I would reach out to Karbon.
