Description

Recent reductions in the IRS workforce along with a government shut down have introduced new challenges for tax professionals managing correspondence and case resolutions. While enforcement actions have slowed temporarily, limited staffing has resulted in processing delays, misrouted responses, and increased frustration for both practitioners and clients.

This course provides tax professionals with practical strategies to communicate effectively with the IRS and manage cases efficiently despite extended response times. Participants will learn how to use available IRS tools, implement proven communication tactics, and maintain productivity in the face of systemic slowdowns. The course also covers proactive methods to anticipate and adapt to ongoing IRS operational changes, helping practitioners guide clients confidently through an evolving enforcement landscape.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the current state of the IRS workforce and its impact on communication and case resolution processes.
  • Identify how IRS staffing reductions contribute to correspondence backlogs, enforcement delays, and practitioner challenges.
  • Utilize key IRS tools and strategies to manage processing delays and communication barriers effectively.
  • Implement proactive approaches to set client expectations and reduce frustration caused by prolonged IRS response times.
  • Prepare for ongoing IRS operational and procedural changes to ensure readiness and maintain efficient client service.
