Welcome to another spotlight featuring accountants who use Intuit® ProSeries® Tax. In this profile, we’re putting the spotlight on Michael Garcia, a tax preparer for D&S Management Ltd. in St. Charles, Illinois. Michael is an active participant in the ProSeries Tax Community and often provides solutions to other tax professionals who use the software.

Scott Cytron: Michael, thanks for agreeing to be featured in one of our spotlights. Can you please tell me a few ways ProSeries benefits your practice?

Michael Garcia: Thanks for having me. Proseries is a good software fit for me. My clients are not overly complex, but ProSeries still offers tools to generate future expectations.

SC: What is unique about your firm compared to other firms?

MG: I can’t say I am unique to the industry, but the one thing I think I offer is my ability to explain things in such a way to the client where they understand. I feel when they understand for the most part, they are more comfortable.

SC: Well said! What is your vision for your firm going forward?

MG: Well, I moved this past year in hopes of attracting new clients. The main reason I moved was due to my marriage, but the business follows me.

SC: I know you’re active in the ProSeries Tax Community. What motivates you to help others with questions about the software and about tax?

MG: I try to be active during the tax season. I believe in giving back due to the community because I was helped once. There are a few more who are very active and I salute them.

SC: How has your practice changed over the last 5 years?

MG: I’ve increased my prices to accurately reflect the services I offer, and last year was my first year going paperless. That is a challenge for me as my entire career has been paper copies.

SC: What is your firm’s tech stack, and what Intuit products are you using?

MG: At the moment just ProSeries, but I am looking to stack others with it.

SC: What do you like to do in your spare time?

MG: I listen to live music, and reading and weightlifting are a big part of my life.

SC: What was your very first job?

MG: Many many moons ago I was a dishwasher for a buffet restaurant, and started working in my father’s office when I was 17 doing bank reconciliations, journal entries, and compiling sales reports, and that year was my first year i was introduced to income tax. I worked behind the scenes. I was 20 when circumstances forced me into full-time income tax prep.

SC: Thanks Michael!
