
Generating Wisconsin Individual Credits in Lacerte

How do I trigger the Wisconsin Schedule FC-A Farmland Preservation Credit?
The Wisconsin Schedule FC-A will only generate if lines 1a, 3, 4 and 5 are marked yes.
Line 1a is automatically marked Yes if the taxpayer is a full year resident of WI, as indicated at the top of Screen 1, Client Information.
- Navigate to Screen 53, Other Credits
- Use the top left panel to navigate to Screen 53.231, Wisconsin Other Credits
- Scroll down to the Farmland Preservation Credit section
- Locate the Schedule FC-A subsection
- Enter checkmarks in all four of the following fields:
- Taxpayer is subject to a farmland preservation agreement or transition area agreement entered into on or after July 1, 2009 (MANDATORY to file Schedule FC-A)
- Compliance with soil and water conservation
- Property taxes owed or paid by taxpayer
- Gross farm profits more than $6,000
- Enter Lines 3, 4, and 5
To fill in the Schedule FC-A, Page 2, use the left hand panel to navigate to Screen 53.232, Wisconsin Schedule FC-A Farm Information, and fill out the relevant details there.
Wisconsin Individual Form 1 Line 13 - Rent Credit and Property Tax Credit
Wisconsin allows taxpayers to claim a credit for rent paid during the tax year for living quarters used as a primary residence or property taxes paid on a home. A credit for both Rent and Property Tax Paid can be taken in the same year provided the combined total is no more than $300. Lacerte uses the table in the Form 1 instructions or Form 1A to calculate the appropriate amount of credit.
The renter's credit shows up on Line 13a of Wisconsin Form 1, or Line 20a of Form 1A (Prior year).
Perform the following steps to enter the information for the Rent Credit:
- Go to Screen 53, Other Credits.
- Select Wisconsin in the St. Credits box on the left side of the screen.
- Select Renter and Property Tax Credit in the Section box on the left side of the screen.
- Enter the appropriate information in the field, Rent paid in 2024 (heat included) (code 12) or Rent paid in 2024 (no heat) (input sheet code 5).
The property tax credit shows up on Line 13b of Wisconsin Form 1 or Line 20b of Form 1A (Prior year).
To enter the information for the Property Tax Credit:
- Go to Screen 25, Itemized Deductions.
- Select Taxes in the Section box on the left side of the screen.
- Scroll down to Real Estate Taxes and enter the appropriate amount in the field, Principal residence [A] (Ctrl+E) (input sheet code 15).

Adjust the taxes entered in Screen 25, Itemized Deductions
- Go to Screen 53, Other Credits.
- Select Wisconsin in the St. Credits box on the left side of the screen.
- Select Renter and Property Tax Credit in the Section box on the left side of the screen.
- Enter the appropriate adjustment amount in the field, Property taxes paid on home [A] (input sheet code 8).
