To remove duplicate files from HomeBase in ProSeries 2020 and newer:
There are two main causes of duplicate files in HomeBase:
- The same file may exist with different file names. This is common if you make copies of returns for different scenarios or use Save As.
- Open ProSeries to the HomeBase.
- Check the File Name column.
- If the duplicates have different file names, open each file and compare the data inside the return.
- Decide which one you wish to keep.
- Select the one you don't wish to keep.
- From the File menu, select Client File Maintenance, then Delete.
- The same file may exist in a different location on the computer. This is common if you open returns from flash drives, or locations that aren't the default data folder.
- Open ProSeries to the HomeBase.
- Check the File Name column.
- If the duplicates have the same file name, scroll to the far right and check the Path and File Name column.
- Scroll to the far right side of HomeBase and look at the path and file name Column.
- Open each file and compare the data inside the return.
- Decide which one you wish keep.
- Select the one you don't wish to keep.
- From the File menu, select Client File Maintenance, then Delete.
To remove duplicate files from HomeBase in ProSeries 2019 and prior:
- Open ProSeries.
- In HomeBase, scroll all the way to the right and make sure that the Full path and File name is unique for each client in the HomeBase.
- If the duplicated clients show the same Full Path and file name, the root issue is related to HomeBase. Do not delete any duplicated client, as this may duplicate the original as well. A HomeBase Tune-up should be run or HomeBase may need to be re-indexed to correct the issue.
- Select the client file you wish to remove.
- Go to the File menu, point to Client File Maintenance, and select Delete.
- Select Yes when asked to make sure the deletion. The record should now be removed from the HomeBase screen.
