Lacerte locks up when clicking Statement or Worksheet from Forms Tab

When clicking on a Statement or Worksheet link in the Forms tab, the program locks up or freezes. This typically occurs when the Statement, Worksheet, or other dialog window is opening outside the viewable screen area.

Pressing the Esc key will typically close the window and should release the program. Use the following solutions to move the window back to a viewable area:

Solution 1: Keyboard Shortcut

  1. Press ALT + Space keys then release both.
  2. Press the M key and release.
  3. Now the Up arrow key and release.
  4. The pointer will now be attached to the window title bar. Move the mouse to bring the window into view.

Solution 2: Rename Configuration File

To correct the file manually:

  1. Close the program.
    • You may have to use Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+ Esc) and end the task under the Applications tab.
  2. Press the Windows + R keys at the same time to open the Run command window.
  3. Type %appdata% in the Search (Run) field and hit Enter. 
  4. Then open the Lacerte folder on the new window that pops up.
  5. Delete the configuration (ini) file for that year (e.g., W24tax.ini for 2024 Lacerte).
  6. Launch Lacerte and attempt to open the same screens.
