ProSeries Professional Network Utility for Mapped Drives

by Intuit•1• Updated 6 days ago

The utility in this article is intended to assist with ProSeries Professional network installations. The Microsoft Windows User Account Control may interfere with the computer's ability to access the mapped network drive when attempting to update ProSeries. This can cause several issues with installing, using, or updating ProSeries, such as updates freezing or hanging.

Option 1 - Run the Mapped Drive tool from ProSeries Tool Hub

Step 1: Download and install the ProSeries Tool Hub

  1. Close ProSeries.
  2. Download the ProSeries Tool Hub Install file. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it (like your Downloads folder or your Windows desktop).
  3. Open the file you downloaded (ProSeriesToolsHub_Setup.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the Tool Hub.

If you can't find the icon, do a search in Windows for ProSeries Tool Hub and select the program.

Step 2: Using the tool in the ProSeries Tool Hub

  1. Open the ProSeries Tool Hub.
  2. Select Network Issues on the left.
  3. Select Mapped Drive Tool.

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to run the tool.

This requires modification of the Windows Registry. Serious problems may occur if the registry is modified incorrectly. Intuit strongly recommends having an IT professional make these changes if you are not comfortable with editing the registry. It's also strongly recommended to make a backup of the registry before proceeding. See here for further instruction.

To force Windows to make network drives available to all users:

  1. Close ProSeries.
  2. Press [Windows key] + R to open the Run box.
  3. Enter REGEDIT and select OK.
  4. In the pane to the left, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System.
  5. In the pane to the right, right-click in a blank area.
  6. Choose New.
  7. Select DWORD Value.
  8. Name it EnableLinkedConnections and hit Enter.
  9. Double-click to open the newly added key.
  10. Set the Value to 1, then select OK.
  11. Close the Registry Editor and restart the computer.
