Information about Rightworks user count for Intuit Hosting with Lacerte or ProSeries

ProSeries:

  • The network license for ProSeries is a single price. Unlike Rightworks, the price does not change based on the number of users that will be using ProSeries.
  • Rightworks is configured for users to use programs in a virtual network environment. This means the network version of ProSeries is the one enabled inside of Rightworks.
  • A ProSeries network license is required if two or more users can access the Rightworks environment.

Lacerte:

  • Lacerte Fast Path users (or seats) control how many users can be in the same year of the Lacerte program at the same time. If more users are trying to sign in to the same year of Lacerte than your number of Lacerte Fast Path users you'll receive a "Too Many Users" error.
  • Hosting for Intuit Lacerte Tax users controls how many users can be in the hosted environment at the same time. There are other packages available directly through Rightworks to grant access to the hosted environment to other users who won't be using Lacerte. Many firms will have more Lacerte Fast Path users than Hosting for Intuit Lacerte Tax users at some time during the year.

If you have enough Hosting for Intuit Lacerte Tax users for everyone that is going to be using Lacerte at the same time, then everything will work fine.

If you have more people planning to use Lacerte at the same time than you have Hosting for Intuit Lacerte Tax users, be aware of the following implications:

  • Switching Intuit Lacerte Tax packages between users isn't practical because removing a package from a user automatically uninstalls all of their apps. When the Account Owner or Account Admin assigns the package back to them, their apps will need reinstalling.
  • Users not using hosting can work in Lacerte using a local installation. However, when Lacerte users prepare a return locally, it won't automatically sync up to the hosted environment. It'll require uploading the file and restoring it into Lacerte in the hosted environment for hosting users to see.

A firm may intentionally have more Hosting for Intuit Lacerte Tax users than Lacerte Fast Path users when employees work different days. Keep in mind, when more users are trying to sign in to the same year of Lacerte than your number of Lacerte Fast Path users, the program gives a message that there are "Too Many Users".
