How to download and install ProSeries Professional as a network

by Intuit7 Updated 2 months ago

Before you start:

  • This article references default installation paths and uses YY to reference the tax year in 20YY format. C: will always indicate the local drive and X: will always indicate the network drive.
  • If you used mapped drives in prior years, you should continue to use the same mapped drive with the new version of ProSeries. For assistance with mapping network drives, review information on the Microsoft support site.
  • ProSeries Professional supports two types of network installation. Choose the instructions below that best describes your office setup:
    • Peer-to-peer network installation: is used when one computer in the office will act as both a user workstation and will store the shared ProSeries files locally.
    • Client-server network installation: is used when a server or separate computer will serve only as file storage and all workstations connect to the network to gain access to the shared ProSeries files.

If you're on a peer-to-peer network:

  1. Sign in to My Account.
  2. From the Dashboard, select Download 20YY.
  3. Run the CoreInstallerTYYY.exe file.
  4. Select Next to begin the installation.
  5. Choose I accept the terms of the license agreement and select Next.
  6. Choose Network and select Next.
  7. If this is your first year installing as a network, you'll need to select Yes to confirm you have purchased a network license, and then select Next to continue.
  8. Check the Yes box to confirm this computer will be the ProSeries admin computer, and then select Next.
  9. Confirm the computer name and select Next.
  10. Select Next to confirm the folder choices.
    • For a peer-to-peer network, the admin computer acts as both the primary workstation as well as the file share for the network. Both the displayed folders should be on the local C: drive.
    • The recommended default paths are:
      • Local install folder: C:\ProWinYY
      • Network install folder C:\ProSeries\ProNetYY
  11. Select the products you plan to use for the tax year and select Next.
    • Alt + C will clear all choices.
    • Alt + S will select all choices.
  12. If you get a pop-up message about ProSeries Availability, review the list of return types that aren't currently available and select OK.
    • These will be installed through regular ProSeries updates once they are released.
  13. Review the ProSeries is Installed screen and select Finish to launch ProSeries.
  14. On the ProSeries Connected Customer screen, enter your Customer Account Number and Sold To Zip code, if prompted to begin licensing. Select Next when finished.
  15. Select Next to confirm your firm information.
  16. Select Continue to confirm your product licenses.
  17. ProSeries will begin updating in the background and open to the sign-in screen.
  18. Enter your user ID and password and click Sign In.
  19. Complete the ProSeries Practice Setup to enter or confirm your Firm & Preparer info as well as shared program settings. Select Finish when done.
  20. If this is your first year using ProSeries as a network installation, we recommend printing the Workstation Install Instructions before continuing. Select OK when done.
  21. ProSeries is now set up. Once the updates are complete, select Install Now to finish the update process.

Part 1 doesn't need to be repeated. Once you've set up the network share, you can use the same share for all future years.

When installing to a network workstation, the setup.exe file is missing from X:\ProNetYY\Wkstn

You have a new computer that will be a new workstation. However, when you try to install ProSeries Professional, the setup.exe file is missing. To resolve this, follow these steps:

Part 1 - On the admin workstation, uninstall one of the federal form sets (1040, 1065, 1120s, etc.):

  1. Select the Windows Start menu and select All Programs.
  2. Select ProSeries 20YY and select Uninstall.
  3. Select one Federal form set and select Uninstall.

Part 2 -Reinstall the form set:

  1. Sign in to My Account.
  2. Download and install the year of the program that's having the issue.
  3. Install the program to the same location that ProSeries is currently installed.
    • This will trigger a check of the network folders and replace the missing setup.exe file. You can now run your workstation setup.

Additional information:

The setup.exe file could be missing because of antivirus software installed on the PC. Exclude ProSeries from all active scans inside the antivirus program. You can find directions for this on the manufacturer website, or you may refer to your local IT professional for assistance.

I'm not seeing the downloads page

If you don't see the downloads page on MyAccount, you've likely defaulted to a Learn & Support role. Your firm administrator will need to update your role to Employee so you'll have the minimum permissions required. If you're a firm administrator, click here to see how to use role management.
