Creating a Filter for Individual returns with Single Member LLCs in Lacerte

How do I create a filter to list only the Individual client files that contain Single Member Limited Liability Companies (SMLLC) for Schedule C Business Income and/or Schedule E Rentals?

To create a filter for SMLLCs :

  1. Select the Filter menu.
  2. Select Modify Filters.
  3. Create a Filter name.
    • Enter SMLLC in the Name of new filter...  window (if this is your first custom filter). Click OK to save; or,
    • Click Add in the Custom Filters window and Enter SMLLC.  Click OK to save.
  4. Click on Groups.
  5. Enter SMLLC for the group name.
  6. Click OK to open the Filter Groups window.
  7. Click on Add under Filter Conditions.
  8. For 2019 and later years
    • Select Miscellaneous from the Category dropdown
    • Select Single Member LLC is present? from the Field dropdown
  9. For 2018 and earlier years:
    • Select Single Member LLC is present? from the Field dropdown
  10. Select is for Compare
  11. Select Yes for Value
  12. Click OK to save.
  13. Continue to click OK on all open windows.
  14. Select the + next to the custom filter folder SMLLC.
  15. Select the subitem SMLLC (this should display a green checkmark that the filter is on).

Note: The filter for Single Member LLC is present?  will work if the checkbox Single Member LLC is marked on either Screen 16, Business Income (Schedule C) or Screen 18 Rental & Royalty Income (Schedule E) and the return has been processed by switching to the Forms tab. You must calculate the return to use the filter.
