Common questions about the "Correct Amount" column in a 1040X in ProConnect Tax
by Intuit• Updated 1 month ago
Diagnostic saying entries shouldn't be made in the Correct Amount column
You may encounter a diagnostic message stating that for e-filing, entries should not be made in the Correct Amount column of Form 1040X. This does mean the Correct Amount column is unnecessary.
The 1040X serves as the explanation of changes made to the original return. While you input the corrected figures in the Correct Amount column of the 1040X, ProConnect Tax uses this information to update the corresponding fields on the Form 1040 before e-filing.
Therefore, do not manually re-enter the corrected amounts on the Form 1040 itself. Doing so will result in duplicate entries and errors.
Other common issues
- Simple math errors: double-check all entries to ensure no miscalculations were made.
- Tax law changes: Stay up to date by following the Hot Topics page
- Data entry mistakes: a simple typo could be causing the return to not go through. Double-check all entries to make sure everything was entered as intended.
