Troubleshooting Access Denied error messages in ProSeries

by Intuit Updated 3 weeks ago

Before you start:

  • This article references default installation paths and uses YY to reference the tax year in 20YY format. C: will always indicate the local drive and X: will always indicate the network drive.

There are a few possible solutions to these issues.

Follow these steps to set the appropriate permissions to the ProSeries folders:

For more detailed instructions for each operating system see the Microsoft instructions here.

  1. Close ProSeries.
  2. Open Windows File Explorer.
  3. Locate the ProSeries application folders:
    • For ProSeries Basic this is the BasWinYY folder.
    • For ProSeries Professional stand alone or workstations, this is the ProWinYY folder.
    • For ProSeries Networks this is the ProNetYY folder.
  4. Right-click on the folder of the affected year and select Properties.
  5. Go to the Security tab.
  6. Select Edit.
  7. Highlight the user in the list, or click Add to add a new user group called Everyone.
  8. Check the Allow box next to Full Control.
  9. Select OK, and then OK again.
  10. Open ProSeries.
  11. Try to complete the task again.
    • If these steps didn't resolve the issue, continue with the next set of instructions.

Check your AntiVirus settings:

See here for instructions on making sure your antivirus is configured correctly for ProSeries then try again, if the error continues, proceed to the next step.

Reinstall ProSeries.

If none of the above steps resolve the issue do a clean install of the impacted year of ProSeries.
