Troubleshooting ProSeries error code 5-67186429 - Connection could not be established when licensing

This article will help you resolve the following error messages:

  • Error code 5-67186429
  • Error code 5-67186457
  • ProSeries failed to license products. A connection to the server could not be established. Please make sure your Internet connection is active. Your web browser can be used to verify your connection. A personal firewall may be preventing the application from connecting to the Internet.

If you're receiving this error in ProSeries 2006-2018 or prior, refer to this article on unlocking prior year ProSeries instead.

Resolving error code 5-67186429

There are multiple causes for this error message. Below you'll find the most common solutions. Attempt to re-license after each troubleshooting section.

Follow these steps to enable TLS 1.2 security protocol:

  1. In Windows, navigate your Control Panel and select Internet Options from under Network and Internet.
    • You may also use the Search feature on your Windows taskbar to search for “internet options.”
  2. Select the Advanced tab.
  3. Scroll down to the Security section.
  4. Check the box labeled TLS 1.2 enabled.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Close Internet Explorer.
  7. Re-license ProSeries by selecting the Tools menu, and then choosing License Products.

If the error message is still present, continue with the next section.

ProSeries requires software or hardware firewall permissions to access the internet. Refer to this article for information about firewall configuration and internet access.

If the error message is still present after configuring the firewall settings, continue with the next section.

  1. Close ProSeries.
  2. Open Windows File Explorer.
  3. Browse to the following location: C:\ProgramData\Intuit\EntitlementClient.
    • ProgramData is a hidden folder. To view it, you may need to open Control Panel, then select File Explorer Options. Click the View tab, and then check the box labeled Show hidden files, folders, and drives.
  4. Open the v8 folder.
  5. Right-click on the entitlementdatastore.ecml file, then select Rename.
  6. Type old at the end of the file name, so that it reads entitlementdatastore.ecmlold.
  7. Open ProSeries.
  8. From the Tools menu, select License Products.

The entitlementdatastore.ecml file contains the license information for ProSeries 2015-current as well as QuickBooks Desktop. To re-license prior year ProSeries programs go to the Tools menu and select License Products. If you use QuickBooks you will need to go to the Help menu and select Activate QuickBooks Desktop.

With the newer operating systems, the limited program rights can sometimes cause the program to not function properly. You can elevate these rights with a simple command.

  1. Right-click on the ProSeries shortcut on your desktop.
  2. From the menu choose Run as administrator.
  3. Once open go to the Tools menu and choose License Products.
