Lacerte 706

I wish to prepare an estate tax return, form 706, for a death occurring in 2024.  Must I wait for 2024 forms?  Or can I use 2023 Lacerte?  If the latter, how can I get the exemption amount right?

You can use 2023, BUT you have to manually adjust any/all numbers for 2024 changes.  White-out & pen....

So it will have to be a paper file.

Can you delay filing until 2024 software is available?

Yes, I think the best course of action is to file an extension & wait for 2024 forms.

I 100% agree.

I've only used prior year forms ONCE, for a pushy client that just couldn't/wouldn't wait.

Never again - there's too much room for error.  AND it's a PITA, plus it looks terrible.
