Taxpayer died in early 2023. Their estate will be all wrapped up and completed within a month. Can we file the final 1040 for 2023 and the first and final estate tax return early, or do we have to wait and file them one year from now in 2024 (when the 2023 tax forms are available)?
If filing early, do we use the 2022 version of the tax forms?
If it makes a difference, their will be no tax owed on these final returns (1040 and 1041).
Thank you for any input.

You can file them early- on paper, using 2022 forms marked up for 2023.
You're welcome.
