E-filing has turned many tax preparers into data entry clerks, with all those extra numbers that IRS now collects that are not keypunched when they process paper returns themselves. I have been surprised, though, about how many have been turned into accounting clerks as well. It's not enough to tell them how much tax to pay; the payment must be set up from their bank account, and if the date changes or the account number changes, free services are offered to make it right.
So, with the recent shortages of bathroom tissue, I'm just wondering. How much other paperwork are you willing to do for your clients?
