NEED NY IT-267 YESTERDAY

KenGreenberg

This form generates the tax credit for a heat pump system.

I searched for it by number, and there's no form. But there was a place to add an override amount. I entered it, and it enters it on form IT-201-ATT properly, and then carries it over to the return.

But the override creates a critical error stating the form is required, but you don't have it.

I'm trying a workaround: I downloaded the form from NYS Tax. I attached the completed form in Proconnect, but it's not on the list of attachments, so I picked something else.

What we need

  1. This energy saving credit is a big deal: we need form IT-267
  2. This should then be added to the available forms attachment list
  3. We should have the ability to attach an "Other form" not in the drop list.

It's scary to say that I've been doing this for 36 years. I've never encountered one of the forms in the NY attachment drop down. So those seem far less relevant.

Thanks for the idea to support NY IT-267 on the forms attachment list . We are changing the status to "Open for voting".

The Intuit business model did not predict a plethora of new forms in every state, every year.

Look at the profiles of the company's Board of Directors.  You see anyone here who might have at one time filled out a tax return for someone else for compensation?

I wonder what the dwindling number of software competitors is offering this tax season.  Maybe someone can ask around, and shame Intuit into catching up.

Meanwhile, the idea of a tax credit for heat pumps sounds, to someone in Phoenix, like a tax credit for pretzels in Pennsylvania.  Doesn't everyone already have one?  But I know, I had to explain how they work to a friend in Chicago.

Is there a work around other than mailing in!??!

@mwloomis

I did my own workaround:

  • I downloaded the IT-267 from Tax.ny.gov and completed it
  • I attached it to the return using the attach PDF function
  • I cheated: there's no drop down for that form so I picked another form that was in the drop down
  • I used the override field for IT-267 to put in a credit of $2,503 (the actual amount)

Recall that Proconnect has the override field... just no IT-267 form or even a generic form.

The e-file was accepted. BUT, the other day the client got their refund, and NY adjusted it down by $2,503. He's calling them tomorrow morning.

Here's the rub: the refund amount with the credit was correct. The form is their form from the web. The only thing that was off: the attached form drop label didn't match.

Bottom line: I don't see a workaround other than mailing it in. I'm hoping the client can answer on the NY tax website, upload the form, and get it squared away.

Nasty biz!
