I am trying to enter New York state drivers license pin and it is supposed to be an 8-10 digit number on the back of the drivers license (that's what is says in the critical diagnostic). On the input screen, it will not allow more than six digits. Then when I tried to e-file, it was rejected because it says the number can only contain numerical digits. The PIN on the back of the license is mostly letters. What am I missing here?

I just entered a 20 digit driver's license.
The PIN at the bottom of the input section is NOT for the driver's license. It is an IRS IP PIN (Identification Protection Person Identification Number)
Answers are easy. Questions are hard!

When you enter the NY state tax return, NY tab is created automatically under General/Misc. info/Direct Deposit.
