The IRS is rejecting an e-filed return because the deceased taxpayer's SSN is marked as belonging to a dead guy. Do I have any other choice besides paper filing?

No.

And the dead guy the message referenced is your client. SSNs get locked after a certain amount of time. I don't know what that time is.

The more I know, the more I don't know.

Is this a 2022 return?  What month and year did he die?

He died 1/22/22. I even tried moving him to “Spouse.” Still rejected.
