The way I always learned to do it was to create two new assets, one that will be remaining and one that will be disposed of. You enter them with the same information as the old asset so that the history rolls forward properly. Once done and you verify that the totals of the new asset match the old asset, delete the old asset. Then you can dispose of the portion that is being sold.
