When I click on "forgot password" I get a prompt that has as it's only option "try password again."

You'll need to enter your phone number, email address, or user ID for the recovery. If that's not possible, click on the link for Try something else, which will prompt you for more personal info.
In case none of these work, your only option is to call Intuit Support.
