I have filed multiple W-2 with Maryland income and withheld taxes before but experiencing rejection per below message for the first time
Went back and checked carefully State withheld taxes and they do add up to what shows up on line 41 of MD 502 Form. I removed the overrides and ensured Box 16 taxes on both W-2 input are assigned to MD.
But keep getting rejects. Federal filed successfully. I even called ProConnect and they gave up saying i need to call Maryland DOR and I do not know if that will get me anywhere.
At this point, is paper filing the only option?
Error message is
Line 41 Total Maryland and local tax withheld - Must equal Total Maryland and local tax withheld from all W-2s, W-2Gs, 1099-Rs, 1099-Gs, 1099-MISCs, 1099-Bs, 1099-DIVs, 1099-INTs, 1099-OIDS, 1099-Ks, and 1099-NECs.
Code: Form502-01710-010
Solution: The total Maryland withholding reported on the Form 502 must equal the amount of withholding sourced to Maryland from all W-2s
Any insights will be much appreciated
Thanks in advance
Hari
Folks coming back here to share issue is resolved. Took 2 calls to Proconnect support and they figured out the mistake I made.
there were 2 W-2 only one of them had DC wages but no associated state withheld taxes.
I had to force income to MD in one of them, force income to DC in the other W-2 and then in last column choose 'S-state only' to not double up Federal
Then clean up the Box 15 state identifier (I inadvertently had the wrong state here) while trying out various combinations.
Note to self - extra careful with multiple W-2 with the interplay of Box 1, 17 and Box 15 with multiple states.
I do wish ProConnect stopped me in the diagnostics (may it suggested and I overlooked)
All good now.
