I've tried asking questions all morning. All of my messages say "Sent," but I haven't gotten any kind of response from the "Assistant," virtual or human.

We have checked and there have been no reports.
To make sure we are taking the same path as you, we went to Help>Assistant and typed in a questions and also asked something. We do get a response. If this is the same path you are taking this support article may help:
Troubleshooting browser issues when visiting Intuit websites
Otherwise we would recommend trying a private browsing window or a different browser to see if this works.

I tried opening chat in an incognito window and a different browser. It just keeps skipping to this.
