On the "Rental and Royalty Income" screen, under the "Property Information" tab, in the "Other Information" section near the bottom, there is a checkbox that is just called "Investment"
What is the purpose of this checkbox? And is there a resource for looking at the functionality of different inputs? Is there some manual or something that can help guide where in the inputs are meant to flow or affect?
Support just told me this after several escalations to figure it out:
The program carries the interest expense and the net investment income to Form 4952. NOTE: Generally, investment income is never passive income (and vice versa), so if this activity is a passive activity, do not check this box. However, income from leased land is generally treated as investment income and should be reported on Form 4952, but not reported on Form 8582.
