why is there a number printed on the bottom of each page of the 1040

Ah... those don't show on the screen, only when printed to paper.

Such as FDIA0112L 10/07/19? I believe that is a software identifier for the form overlay. This is what I see at the bottom of page 1 of 1040, but page 2 has FDUA01112L 02/21/20

We are not printing on official IRS produced forms, but rather some software company layout of the official IRS form.

Smile and go on with your life. It is part of the system and it will be there forever. The only control you have is to change tax programs, but you will see their equivalent on their forms.
