Personal Identity Protection Pin

I have a 2023 return that has rejected due to a missing personal identity protection pin. This is the first year our firm is preparing the return for this client, and I can see that, in our system, the personal identity protection pin was marked when an intern entered the previous years' return. In my review of the 2022 return, this PIN was entered in error.

My question is: does Lacerte receive this error from the IRS or just from the checkbox in Lacerte stating that there was a PIN entered last year? Again, I believe that the 2022 PIN number was entered in error, so I want to double check before asking the client.

Thanks!

I believe the IRS is the one kicking it back to you.
