Magic? Intuit doesn't tend to like to write refund checks. They have the corporate policy of just telling you "tough nuggies" if you pay for more than you used.
I've had decent (not 100%, but over 50%) success by calling and discussing with the Intuit rep. They have considerable discretion, depending on the reason.
Don't bother submitting a request online; it is never even acknowledged. Pick up the phone and call.
