Is there a way to 'lock' extensions after they have been prepared & paid.

When prepared the balances due are generated using data in the return at that moment.

After the due date - and data changes the extensions change to the current return - so except for manually going to the extension input prior to changing data - is there a way to lock the extension to the amount prior at the moment it was prepared?

Enter the amount that shows on the extension when it was filed, in other words NO.

For most, I just print out the tax summary to keep as reference.

For complicated returns, I'll copy it & name it ###Extension.

This can be a problem if you use REP, but in theory you aren't charged twice unless the SSN/FEIN is changed (even tho you do get the message that you'll be charged again).
