E-file amended joint return with one spouse deceased

My first time for this.  Original return e-filed with Taxpayer deceased, spouse still alive.  Spouse received amended brokerage statement which causes more tax to be owed.  Prepared amended return to be e-filed back in March 2024.  The e-file bounced due to Social Security number locked by Social Security due to taxpayer being deceased.  Error message state to wait 4-6 weeks to resolve then retry e-file.  Just tried to e-file again and get the same message, now being 3 months after filing original return.  Do I have to continue to wait or am I not able to e-file such a return?  Thanks in advance!

Once the SSN is locked, paper filing is the only option.

The more I know, the more I don't know.

Why the rush?  File a paper return and make an online payment.

And of course, there are two taxpayers here.  Why do you refer to just one, and then belittle the spouse?
