I prepare nine trust returns and would like to import interest, dividends, and security transactions from UBS. It sounds as if the "Tax scan and import" feature would do that but the unlimited license is over $2,000 and that would not make sense for me. I can't find individual return pricing. Any idea what it would cost for my nine returns?

Thanks.
I went down the path of buying it for one client and was taken to a screen that indicated it costs $15 on a per-return basis. Hard to imagine that would make sense for many situations.
I agree with your approach to Schedule D. Some security sales involve so many tax lots (reinvested dividends) it would be impractical to review everything. And the IRS matching process probably focuses on totals by the categories you described.

I do not believe a pay per return of scan & import is available and personally I don't think it works well enough to be worth any cost. Even the free import of things like all stocks sales is a burden. I prefer to look at the paper and put in 4 summary lines for covered ST and uncovered ST, covered LT and uncovered LT and few non covered transaction with my speedy fingers. Less lines to check in less time than scan, trust it gets read right and review of every line imported.
