NON RESIDENT SPOUSE WITH NO SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER

Has anyone had this situation?  Spouse does not have a social security number and the taxpayer is filing married filing separately.  Since there is no social security number for the spouse it forces a paper filing.

Is there a way around it? Can we use 999-99-9999?

Indicate the Spouse is a Nonresident Alien.
