I'm working on a 5 year carryback for losses in '18, '19, and '20. I started an the calculations in the prior years, then noticed the instructions on 1040-X say to attach 1045 Sch A and B (if applicable) to the returns. I did the 1045 for '18, then noticed it is almost identical to the worksheet Lacerte generates for the loss, except the worksheets include AMT and are easier to read. Do I really need to generate the actual 1045 for all these years, is it ok to just let Lacerte do the heavy lifting and attach the worksheets to the amendments?
Currently I'm just finding the NOL for the loss generating years and popping it into the NOL section of Lacerte on the carryback year. It seems accurate to me, but before this I've never done an NOL Carryback.
Thanks!
