Lacerte Window "Appears" Off Screen

steven
Level 5

While Lacerte has at least 2 technical articles on how to address this issue, they do not include the appropriate amount of finesse included below.  The Lacerte window does not offer the same controls (Move) as do other Windows Apps.  I just wrote this for my users.  Hope it helps.

SUMMARY

---------------

If one changes monitor configuration the Lacerte Window may not be visible when the program is reopened.  Lacerte still "thinks" the window is at the location where you last closed it.  This process applies to other Windows applications.

REFERENCE INFORMATION

-------------------------------------

Windows have 3 sizes

  • Maximize - Full Screen
  • Restore - User definable box size
  • Minimize - On, but hidden in the system tray

If your window is "Maximized" you will be able to see it, but it may disappear if put into "Restore" mode.

The "Title Bar" is the top portion of the Window which is where one needs to position the cursor to be able to "drag" a window.  If the Title Bar is off the top of the screen, one can not move the window.

THE FIX

-----------

The Fix consists of locating and then moving the missing window.  There are 2 methods to move the window once it is located.

Click the Lacerte system tray icon until it appears highlighted.  This indicates the window is in the required "Restore" mode.

While hovering over the highlighted system tray icon, press the "Alt and Space Bar".

A small menu will appear somewhere on the screen with the following entries:

  • Restore (Greyed out)
  • Move
  • Size
  • Minimize
  • Maximize
  • Close

The location of this popup window is an indicator of in what direction off screen the missing window is located.

METHOD 1

Click "Move" with the mouse and then press and hold the arrow key towards the center of your screen. You may need to use a left or right key as well as an up or down key to get the window's "Title Bar" on screen.

METHOD 2

Click "Move" with the mouse and then press the arrow key towards the center of your screen one time.  Drag  the mouse towards the center of the screen.

NOTE: DO NOT CLICK, just drag.

Thank you.  It helped to move the secondary windows that pop up in Lacerte.
