Tools, sixth up from the bottom.

BUT, unless you are using 2018 for tax projections I would NOT transfer all clients yet.  The first versions are often a bit, um, well....not quite ready for prime time.

Does it hurt anything to transfer now (if you're not going to work on them, just get them transferred)?  Only 160 of 277 individual returns transferred for us and I don't know how to fix that.

Waiting does allow the bugs to shake out. Hopefully an update will cure @bjscheel problem. Take a look and see if the failures are "locked."

No rhyme or reason re: locked or unlocked- some of each transferred.  When I tried to do a specific one that did not transfer, it said "Exception occurred in the tax engine."  However, unlocking all and then trying again did let them all proforma to 2018.  Never had to do that before.

I too received this error for one client transferring from 2017 to 2018.  A Lacerte rep interacted with my computer,  looked through all the 2017 data details of the one client using CTRL W.  He spotted a "weird" description in the itemized medical data.  "We" deleted the input and the client proforma to 2018 "like butter."  Only took about 45 minutes to resolve.  He told me that "usually" it is a Charitable Contribution input issue.

I had issues with transferring 17 to 18 with sending organizers from 17.  All problems were solved by unlocking all of the returns.  Thank You abctax55.

I transferred all my clients from 17 to 18 yesterday.  ALL were locked, and (luckily) I had no problems.  I did do it in small batches tho, so identifying any that didn't move would be easier.  I must be livin' right :smirk:

This is done for 2018 in the 2017 program. Highlight the clients you want, then click the 17 -> 18 icon (see image).

I agree, it is much to early to transfer any except those you want to run a "test" on.

No, it doesn't "hurt", but beware that you will need to do it again if there's a major update to fix issues.

Supposedly, those that didn't transfer produce a 'message'.  I haven't (nor will I) transfer all my clients; I will only transfer those that I want to use to do 2018 year-end projections.  And those, I renumber.  I will then transfer them again with the "normal" client number to use for actual tax prep.

OK -off my soap box

Known issues with transferring:

Locked returns (be sure you have a good backup, unlock, transfer, lock),

Returns with "i"s in Screen 26 (either the Org's name, or the description of items donated).
