I have an s corporation that is invested in a partnership. The partnership generated K1s for 30 different states. the s corp is going to need to file in those same states. How do I get the partnership state k1 info info the state s corp return

First you need to figure out whether each state wants you to allocate the partnership income to it or apportion it.

Would the S Corp be filing in these 30 states even it didn't have this partnership K-1?

The more I know the more I don’t know.

no, the s corp wouldn't file in any of these states if it weren't for the partnership it is invested in generating the state info.  The scorp is the remnant of a buy out where some cash was received as well as the interest in the partnership.  It doesn't have any business activity but only acts as a passthrough for the partnership.  I inherited this and there was some reason they couldn't just close the scorp down (it only has 1 shareholder who owns the full 100%)
