Do you need to file a 1041 if an EIN was applied for but did not have $600 in income?

Client applied for an EIN for a Decedent's estate and on the EIN Letter it states the date the 1041 tax return is due.  The estate made less than $600.  Do they need to file a 1041 tax return or notify the IRS to close out the account?

IRS needs to change that form letter that tells every estate with an EIN that it needs to file a 1041.  No, you don't have to file.
