Efile Form 114

Efile Form 114

The filing status of the federal return is married filing jointly.

During 2022 spouse moved out of the country after the demise of the taxpayer.

Spouse is filing as survivor.  Form 1310 is attached to claim refund of overpaid tax.

Per IRS instructions, according to LaCerte, she must paper file Form 1040.

Spouse also has accounts abroad, for which she is required to file Form 114, which must be filed electronically.

In order to file Form 114 electronically, federal box must be checked per LaCerte instructions.

Contradictory diagnostics are being generated.

How do I generate an electronic version of Form 114, whilst generating paper form 1040 for filing?

Comments

EF F1040 and EF F114 are two different EF functions in Lacerte.

I never have a F114 client who paper filed, but would the following work?

Prepare F114, get the F114a signed, check the Federal Box when you efile 114.  Then uncheck it.

I never thought about this, but I can't think of any difference on the generated tax forms whether you check or uncheck the federal box, except some "filing administration" things, such as the diagnostics for you to fill out the efile opt-out.  The tax forms and the computation shouldn't be affected.

We do this for a child who does not have a Federal filing requirement but does need to file the FinCen. We turn on the Federal for Efiling, only efile the 114 and then remove the Federal from Efile just so we dont accidentally do anything.
