Form 1099-Q Input Error: The dependent Social Security Number that has been entered in the Education Distributions input screen must match one of the dependents in the return. All entries within the 1099-Q input screen will be ignored. Please review and correct as necessary.
Solution: Income Screen 14.3 Education Distributions (1099-Q) recognizes an entry on this screen as being received by the Taxpayer unless the Spouse checkbox is checked or the Dependent Beneficiary subsection is completed.
When the Dependent Beneficiary subsection is completed but the SSN does not correspond with a dependent on Screen 2 Dependents the diagnostic generates to help clarify why the QTP Distribution Worksheet is not completed, the taxable amount is not being included as income on the return, and/or the 5329 is not generating.
If the Dependent Beneficiary subsection was completed in error remove the incorrect entries.
If the dependent is on Screen 2 check to make to make sure the SSN's match. The incorrect number would need to be corrected.
If this if for a dependent that has not been entered on Screen 2 they would need to be entered. The Earned Income Credit can be set to Suppress and the Child Tax Credit can be set to Suppress CTC and ODC if desired.
This diagnostic is in the Critical Diagnostic Warnings section but will not prevent the e-filing of the return.
