32250

The following diagnostic is generating: e-file: California: Spouse's first name and middle initial missing or invalid.

This has been previously reported to our developers for review, and at this time are no plans to correct this specific diagnostic.

When screen 3 is marked for the spouse being a nonresident alien and does not have an SSN/ITIN, diagnostic #32250 will also generate if there is no SSN entered for the spouse. This diagnostic generates in conjunction with Diagnostic #50844 for Form 8958 requiring a SSN for the spouse to be eligible for e-file.

The return will need to be paper filed due to the missing SSN for the spouse.

Taxpayer is a non-resident alien filing Form 1040-NR under the E2 visa. She is married, but lives apart from her spouse, so she files as a Married Filing Separately. However, every time I input her spouse name, I always get the same critical diagnostic #32250.

I am wondering why..
