The following diagnostic is generating:

Form W-2: To be included in the e-file W-2s must have either wages or combat pay. Withholding on the e-file W-2s does not match withholding reported on Form 1040. This return will be rejected and must be filed on paper.

Solution:

Go to Screen 10, Wages, Salaries Tips, and verify that an amount is entered in the field "(1) Wages, tips, etc. (Ctrl+E if multi-state)." If not, then enter the correct amount.

Note: If an amount was not reported on the client's W-2, box 1, then you must paper file the return. The IRS system automatically rejects any W-2 with a blank box 1.

If there is an amount in the above field, open it by clicking inside the field, then pressing the Ctrl and E keys simultaneously on your keyboard. Verify that at least one amount entered does not have source S.

Note: If all amounts have source S, then remove the S. "S" causes the amount to not flow to the Federal return and will generate the diagnostic.

Click OK to close the window and save changes.

Go to Screen 14.1, Miscellaneous Income, and verify that there is no amount entered in "Federal withholding" in the Tax Withheld section. Any amount entered here will cause the diagnostic.

Critical , will prevent e-file transmission.

We need more info to be able to help you here. Did that come up before or after attempting to e-file? Have you pulled wage and income transcripts for your clients?
