Got this from an IRS Stakeholder Liaison person as to why some payments were delayed in being taken from accounts.

 

The SL person states:

 

A notice came out late last week that there was some hiccups with the eFile payment system that may have caused some taxpayers to experience a delay in their bank account being debited timely. These payments were made through the Electronic Funds Withdrawal system from 4/9/2026 through 4/15/2026. This issue was fixed, processing resumed on 4/15/26, and impacted files completed processing on 4/17/26. It is recommended to allow 7-10 days.  So the process should have been completed now or will be at any time.  I would recommend keep monitoring bank accounts and IRS Online Accounts for processing of tax return & payment.  You may also call IRS e-file Payment Services 24/7 at 888-353-4537 to inquire about your payment.  Please share as appropriate.
