It is the identity verification that causes the delay, @hcliston.    If they have an IRS Online Account already created, they can get the pin immediately.    A person's identity has to be verified before any information or PIN is issued.   Your identity gets verified when you create the online account, so you have immediate access if going through the online account.   IRS Online Account - If you're a new user, have your photo identification ready. You only have to do the identity verification one time to set up the account and then after they, you use ID.me to login so no reverificiations are needed.
