am doing 3115 to change depreciation because of cost segregation. Am confused about whether to file with return or send in separately.

What do the 3115 instructions say?

Says cannot be electronically filed but can be included as PDF attachment which will efile it. Can print and mail with Form 8453

attaching the pdf seems less hassle than mailing with the 8453

Can you point out where it says that in the Form 3115 Instructions? While that is PART of what needs to be done, it seems like you haven't actually read the Form 3115 Instructions, such as under the heading "When and Where to File".

When I pull up the 3115 there is a big CAUTION under important information that says it cannot be efiled.

Yes, that says it can't be directly e-filed, but as you said you can either attach a PDF *or* paper-file it along with a 8453. Most of us attach a PDF.
But as we were indicating, look that 3115 Instructions because that is only PART of what you need to do.
