We had AMI Tax Machine that went belly-up and we ended up with Intuit (I cant remember if Intuit bought them or if we just chose Intuit) in the mid-90s sometime.

Does anyone else remember faxing returns?  maybe that was just with California, I have this weird memory of submitting returns via fax, our fax had that thermal paper roll!
