Hello!

I have a client I do some work for but have never done the personal return.  There are some other related returns I prepare but never the personal.  Relating to the personal return I have kept some asset records on a rental property for them.  I set them up on ProSeries for that purpose only.  There is no other data in the file I have already.   Recently the spouse who prepared the personal return has developed a health problem and I was asked to prepare the 2024 1040.  Much to my surprise they told me they have been using ProSeries.  I believe it is ProSeries Basic.  I have ProSeries Professional.  I was sent the data files via a USB drive.  A couple of questions if anyone can help with this...

1.)  I already have a file with that file name since it uses the partial name and partial SSN.  So I can't just open up the file they sent me.  I was thinking I could change the data file name I already have and then try to load the old file.  Will that work?  Do I need to also change the name in the program to make that work? 

2.)  I believe the 2023 data file they sent me is basic.  How do I confirm that? And then, is it going to convert automatically to my professional software version?  Seems like it would but just checking to see if anyone has done that.
