Client's checking account number was incorrect on the return that was e-filed. how do we correct this?

If it was for a direct debit, you may want to call the IRS EFW number and cancel it...for some reason I feel like years ago I remember a client getting hit with a insufficient funds fee when the acct number was wrong for a direct debit.

Make sure your client contacts their bank to make them aware of the situation, just in case the wrong account number is an active account.

Ciontact the client and apologize. You can't change the efiled return.

If the account number is wrong, the bank will return the deposit to the IRS, the IRS will then issue a refund check and mail it to the address shown on the return....so make sure you've got a good address on the return!
