IRS Business e-file opens January 16, including prior year business returns.

Important Notes:

  • To successfully e-file returns, make sure your software is up to date by going to the Tools menu and choosing Lacerte Updates.
  • Some Federal and State forms may not be final.
  • This includes Lacerte 2021, 2022, and 2023. 
  • All previously filed and held returns will be sent to the taxing authority and related acknowledgements can be updated.

Important Updates!

Available Friday, January 26, 2024 (6AM Pacific):

  • 2023 Partnership 1065 e-file is live. 
  • 2023 S Corporation 1120S e-file is live.

Form 990-T  Exempt Organization Business Income Tax Return (2021, 2022 & 2023) - March 17, 2024:

  • The IRS announced e-file will not be available for Exempt Form 990-T until March 17, 2024. Messaging will appear in-product as a reminder when attempting to transmit prior to this date.  For prior year filings that may be due during this period, the IRS has indicated extensions should be filed for these returns using Form 8868.

Form 8868 Extension (2023 Only)  - March 17, 2024:

  • E-file will not be available for Form 8868 until March 17, 2024. Messaging will appear in-product as a reminder when attempting to transmit prior to this date.  For prior year filings that may be due during this period, the IRS will provide guidance on how to file. This guidance is not yet available, updates to this article will be included when available. 
  • This extension supports the following returns:
    • Exempt: Form 990 Series & Form 4720
    • Fiduciary: Form 5227 & Form 4720

Note: Diagnostics have been included to provide additional visibility around these items, and will be updated to reflect the most current expectations.
