I've run across this in the past when my firm information was updated in the newer software program. In that case, you can try these steps to resolve the issue. Make sure your Windows Explorer is set to show file extensions to complete these steps.
- Within Lacerte, press F10 on the keyboard to open the Tech Support Info window.
- Under the System Information tab, take note of the Data Path.
- Navigate to the Data path directory then open the Notes Folder.
- Locate the Organizer file for the client.
- If the Client Number is 1234 then the Organizer file would be 1234.od1 for a 2021 client ( od0 for 2020, etc).
- Right-click on this file and choose Rename.
- Change the extension to old and press Enter (1234.old).
- Select File -> New -> Text Document.
- Name this text document the Client Number and replace the .txt extension with .od?. ( ?= tax year, ex. 2021 would be 1234.od1)
- Open Lacerte and attempt to open the client file.
If you continue to have trouble importing the file, please contact our support for further assistance.
