I filed W-2's earlier this month via the Information Return System and SSA website, got rejected due to the employer e-mail address not being on there. Recreated the file but got rejected again by SSA saying it's just a duplicate file. Anyone had the same issue?
I have not. However, I created all of my W2EF files in EasyACCT and then uploaded to SSA BSO site. Did you use Accuwage to check the files before you uploaded them? I did all of my uploads on Saturday, having ran them through Accuwage first with positive results. But SSA site is showing them IN PROCESS still, so hopefully everything is OK.
The forms themselves are fine, the rejection is being caused by a seemingly new requirement from SSA for employer contact information to be included in the filing such as an e-mail address and phone number. I think a software update has now caught that problem and solved it, fingers crossed. Thanks for the reply!
I had a lot of company W-2s returned from SSA for that reason. I transferred all of my W-2s from EasyAcct to Information Return Systems before uploading them to SSA. When uploading from EasyAcct, a W-2 was sent for employees still listed but no earnings.
BSO has an option for "resubmitting". That is what I used. I hope they don't come back as duplicate files.
When using Information Return System to create electronic files for 1099s, a diagnostic error appeared requiring the e-mail address. It would have been super if that happened when creating the W-2 electronic files.
It sure was a lot of extra work this year.
Same thing happened to me. I resubmitted yesterday, hoping all go through.
When the Information Return System asks "Is this a replacement file", select No. This will cause IRS to overwrite the existing file and assign the next file number in sequence. Test this file using AccuWage in the SSA site before uploading. Good luck.
