Last year IRS did not work in uploading an electronic 1099 file to the Internal Revenue Service's new IRIS system. I assume that it will for 2024. Can anyone provide a step-by-step guide on how to upload an IREFxxx.DAT file created in the Information Return System to the IRIS portal? Do you have to convert it to a CSV file?
This has been a very frustrating process to deal with. Any guidance and expertise is greatly appreciated. Thanks to one and all.
I have spent most of the day trying to figure out how to file with IRIS through the information return system. Apparently, it doesn't I am learning. EasyAcct IRS does not state that, but IRIS says it accepts csv files. The file I created to e-file the 1099s with the software was a DAT. I cannot find either how to export the 1099 file to a csv instead of a dat. So, I am at a frustrating loss as well.
We have never used the FIRE system because our companies were below the threshold limit, however starting with last year most of our companies are now above the limit. The IRS chose that time to switch systems. Here is the answer to your response:
You may use your existing (legacy) TCC to transmit or retrieve your Filing Information Returns Electronically (FIRE) System file status information for tax years 2021 and 2022, until November 26, 2023. Beginning January 2024, you will no longer be able to electronically file using your legacy TCC.
FIRE is no longer available for new accounts and EasyACCT still has not fixed the system.
